Museum History
The Seneca County Museum located at 28 Clay Street, first opened its doors in 1943. In 1942, Mr. Lynn Troxel, Sr. donated the home of his parents to Seneca County to be used as a museum. The Greek Revival home was built by Tiffin's first millionaire, Rezin Shawhan in 1853. The house originally had six rooms and a carriage house. Currently there are 18 rooms and most exhibits pertain to Seneca County.
In 1978, the Fort Ball Center was added and is available to the community for meetings. It is handicapped accessible and can accommodate up to sixty people.
The Seneca County Museum is owned and operated by the Seneca County Commissioners, with special funding from The Seneca County Museum Foundation Board. The current director of the museum is Mrs. Tonia Hoffert.
